Aluminium packaging

The circular choice

In a circular economy waste is seen as a resource and turned into valuable raw materials that can be used again. Aluminium recycles forever and fits perfectly into a circular economy.

WHY IS ALUMINIUM PACKAGING

“THE CHAMPION OF A CIRCULAR ECONOMY”?

Aluminium is a valuable material after use and it is recyclable without loss of quality. We call it the champion in a circular economy. Why? Because it fits perfectly into a circular economy, in which waste is seen as a valuable resource and turned into new valuable resources. Aluminium is the only food packaging material this is recyclable forever, and that is why 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use. Also, when recycling aluminium, you save 95% CO2 compared to using virgin aluminium.

WHY IS ALUMINIUM THE PERFECT

MATERIAL FOR FOOD PACKAGING?

The versatility of aluminium as a packaging material, allowing it to take on various shapes, coupled with its protective attributes, has positioned it as the most versatile packaging material globally. Furthermore, a significant advantage lies in the complete recyclability and infinite recycling potential of aluminium food packaging, aluminium cans, and other aluminium packaging materials. There are numerous reasons why aluminium is the perfect material for food packaging.

  • Aluminium provides high barrier and protects food even at low thickness
  • Aluminium goes from freezer or fridge to microwave oven or oven and it can also be used on the grill
  • Aluminium tolerates temperatures from -40°C to 350°C (200°C if lacquered)
  • Aluminium food packaging holds an average of 35% recycled content. Specific numbers can be found in our datasheets and some Plus Pack containers go all the way up to 95% recycled content.
  • EAFA (European Aluminium Foil Association) advises against cooking or storing acidic or salty food with pH outside the range of 4,5 - 8,5 pH in plain aluminium containers.

How aluminum can reduce

your use of plastic

In some markets, the focus is on reducing plastics and replace it with another material. This can be done by moving to another recyclable material – aluminium. This way you can reduce plastics from your assortment without compromising on food quality or food safety.

Aluminium is considered a circular material because it is recyclable, meaning it can be recycled indefinitely without losing its quality or properties. Additionally, aluminium is a lightweight material that can be easily transported, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

All aluminium containers from Plus Pack contain recycled content. In fact, some containers have more than 90% recycled content.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SORT YOUR

ALUMINIUM PACKAGING AFTER USE?

To make the most of aluminum, it's important to know how to properly sort your packaging. This helps create a loop where aluminum can be used again and again. Rules about recycling can be different in each country, which can be confusing for consumers.

But as a simple rule, when you're sorting, treat aluminum food packaging containers as metal. This makes recycling easier and helps use aluminum in a way that's better for the environment.

ALUMINIUM'S VERSATILITY IS WHAT MAKES

IT THE ULTIMATE FOOD PACKAGING MATERIAL

Beyond aluminium's obvious circular attributes, its extreme versatility makes it an exceptionally popular choice among our customers. Aluminium is the only material that seamlessly transitions from freezer and fridge to microwave oven, traditional oven, or grill. This level of adaptability is highly sought after, especially among our ready meal customers, as it allows them to diversify their ready meal assortment without the need for various types of food containers.

Furthermore, aluminium food containers can be colored without compromising their circular attributes. This feature is favored by many food producers as it enables them to customize their packaging solutions, making their products stand out on supermarket shelves.
