New optimized food packaging solution helps European distributor realize immediate savings
New optimized food packaging solution
helps distributor realize savings
These days, most industries are under intense pressure from rising commodity prices, the energy crisis, inflation, and falling consumption. In addition, many companies are looking into a near future with stricter producer responsibility and new recycling fees on the packaging (EPR). In other words, there is every reason why many of Plus Pack’s customers are looking for clever ways to reduce costs.
For one of Plus Pack’s European distribution customers, an effective part of the solution was to replace a container from our popular Ready2Cook® range with a new and optimized variant. The new container has 10% less material, which results in a noticeable cost price reduction. On top of that, we designed a new lightweight lid to the optimized Ready2Cook® container to provide additional savings. This lightweight lid come in a new design with 22% less plastic compared to the original one, also leading to a noticeable cost price reduction.
Long-term benefits
For the climate too
In response to the urgent need for cost reductions, the distributor’s change of packaging variant is, first and foremost, a matter of achieving financial savings. A factor further strengthened by the opportunity of having 20% more containers on a pallet.
Furthermore, the optimized Ready2Cook® solution provides several long-term environmental benefits, according to Rune Rogde Jensen, Group Sales Director at Plus Pack. Referring to the fact that the lightweighting has led to significant CO2 reductions for both the Ready2Cook® container and the matching plastic lid.
“By offering lightweight design, our product developers have realized both short-term and long-term financial benefits besides contributing effectively to the green transition.”

Results in tangible
EPR savings
An extended producer responsibility (EPR) policy is already active in France, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, and Finland, while more European countries will introduce a recycling fee no later than 31/12 2024.
With such a fee in place, the new Ready2Cook® solution will provide potential financial benefits to the company filling food into the containers. In actual figures, the optimized container results in an 11% reduction in recycling fee, while the new lid design, due to an even greater material reduction, provides 22% savings in the recycling fee.
Depending on the market and the size of the recycling fee, this can turn into a considerable amount over a year. For example, an annual purchase of 300.000 aluminum containers with plastic lid in Sweden will result in a total saving of 2.527 euros.
The new Ready2Cook® lightweight lid with 22% less plastics has also been developed for other Ready2Cook® containers. Contact us to find out if you can optimize your lid assortment and receive potential cost savings.
